PSAT for Sophomores

Attn: If you are a sophomore with at least a 3.0 GPA and plan to apply to a 4 yr. college, you may want to sign up to test the PSAT test. The PSAT is a practice SAT test that is designed for juniors. However, interested sophomores can take the test providing there is room. In order to sign up, bring $14 to the SFO, then take your receipt to Robin Eckerfield in the office. Robin will put you on the testing list and give you further information along with a practice booklet. There are 30 spots available for sophomores, so it will be first come, first served.No fee waivers are available for sophomores.  Any questions, see your counselor.

Time to Register for the PSAT - 4 Yr. College-Bound Juniors

Attn: Juniors Who Are Planning to Apply to 4 Year Colleges:
It is now time to register for the PSAT, which will be held here in the cafeteria on Wed.morning -  Oct. 15. All juniors who plan to apply to 4 year colleges should take this test, which is like a practice SAT, but also puts you automatically in the running for the National Merit Scholarship Competition. To register, bring $14 to the SFO, then take your receipt to Robin Eckerfield in the office. Robin will put you on the list and also give you a practice test booklet.

College and Career Night

 On Wed. Sept 24, from 5:30 - 8 p.m., Eureka High is hosting "College and Career Night". This is a night open to all students and their parents who are interested in college planning after graduation. There will be over 40 representatives from various colleges, military recruiters and workshops on various topics including information on the California State Universities, University of California, NCAA eligibility, community colleges, etc. This year they will have 9th grade-specific workshops and 12th grade advanced workshops. There is no transportation provided, so you will need to find your own ride to this event, however, it will be a very worthwhile experience. Hope to see you there!

College Rep Visits


College reps will be on campus to talk to students and hand out information on their schools. If you are interested in attending, sign up in the office. You will receive a pass to attend, but will also need your teacher's permission.

Sonoma State: Former FUHS student, Biana Calderon, will represent Sonoma State on Wed. Sept 24 during 2nd period in the library. Sonoma State has an excellent academic reputation, has great programs in teaching, health sciences and business. It is a smaller CSU and located near Santa Rosa.

UC Davis: Jacquelyn Ross will be here to talk about UC Davis. Normally she will also talk about the UCs in general, so if you are interested in attending any UC, plan to come to this event. Jackie will be here on Thursday, Sept. 25 from 9:15 to 10 a.m. in the library. Passes will go out during lst period.

Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT). Lindsay from OIT will be here on Thursday, Sept 25 during 5th period in the library. OIT is a small school located in Klamath Falls, Oregon. They have really great programs in engineering, dental hygiene, medical sonography and computer technology.

Senior and Scholarship Update for September

Seniors: The Senior/Scholarship Update is now posted for the month of September. The update contains all important news and includes scholarship information. You can access the Update by either clicking on the link below, or checking out paper copies in your Senior English and History classes, in the library and also posted in the counseling office senior bulletin board. Be sure to check out the update at the beginning of each month.
